The meeting last night was such a great turn out. I am so excited to watch us grow nad become so involved in our future careers. SB 187 is scheduled to be debated in the House tomorrow. It is crusical that we take 5 minutes to contact a representative to inform him of vital information prior to his vote. Representatives are ill prepared with incorrect and skewed knowledge of the outcome of this bill. To make it super easy, I have some valid points to pick from to tell your representative, representative contact information, and a district map if needed. SB 187 does NOT expand the NP scope of practice. We are simply able to practice exactly the same without the incumberance of the CPA. Currently the CPA does not, nor has ever required MD supervision, chart audits, on site visits, face to face or even telephonic meetings. Therefore we are NOT "losing supervision" as we were never required to have it. We are taught and trained well with countless hours of evidence based practice and academia. We know our limitations and have many medical referral options for problems outside our scope of practice. Medicare does not require a CPA to practice. In fact, 22 states do not have this agreement, and those NPs see medicare patients. The passing of this bill allows us to reach the increasingly underserved population with access to healthcare that otherwise would not be available.
