The adult obesity rate (BMI≥30kg/m2) in Louisiana is 40.1% (CDC BRFSS 2022), and childhood obesity rate in Louisiana is 21.8%. There are millions of patients with more than 200 obesity-related diseases seeking medical care in the healthcare system daily. NPs are the front-line providers dealing with these patients with obesity and numerous obesity-related comorbidities day in and day out. But providers’ focus is more on the comorbidities. Obesity is usually put aside.
Should obesity be treated as a chronic disease? Why should obesity be treated as a chronic disease? What are the latest guideline’s recommendations? What is the latest development in obesity management?
